In Memory of Rainbows

by Krystle Ada Epum

It was summer,
But not the months when windows moan
From the heat of the sun.

It was the time when Spring summons
The new season, handing its flowers over
Like an offering,
But trembling with the last bit of rain.

And we’d sit on the balcony
Above your mother’s garden,
A symphony of sun and clouds above us,
Moving to nature’s music.

We were no different back then.

Our dreams came from the same heart,
Our beauty equally ethereal and innocent.

It was summer.
And when the clouds finally decided to let go of the rain,
You and I danced to the light that came to us from the sky.
